Goryeong

고령향교

Confucian Academy is an educational institute built by nation to hold sacrificial worship of Confucius and other saints, as well as promote education and religious practive of the rural community.

Goryeong Confucian Academy original site location and year of establishment is uncertain. During Imjin-Wae-Ran(Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592), Confucian Academy has been burnt down and rebuilt at a different location, but the year and exact location of that is also uncertain. However, in King Sookjong’s 28th reign (1702), it has settled at this current location. From the remainders of temple stones found on the site, it looks as though there was a temple before Confucian Academy was built.

Current buildings consist of Daesung-jun used as worship area, Myungryoon-dang Assembly Hall used as general office and educational functionality, and places where guest stayed, i.e. BinHeung-jae, NaeSim-moon, WaeSim-moon, etc.
