Information

It has been originally built around the same time as HaeIn temple in Silla Aejang king’s third year of reign(Year 802). It has been rebuilt in the middle of Goryeo Era by Bojo national Bhuddist priest and at the end of Goryeo Era by Naong Zen master. Banryongsa had DaCheung-SukTop(Multitle layered stone pagoda, National Treasure No. 117) and Banryongsa Dongjong(copper bell, National Treasure No. 288) used to remain at the temple but currently it has been removed to Daegaya Museum to avoid theft and defamation. Banryongsa DaCheung-SukTop is from Goryeo Dynasty. (There are a lot of relics and remains in GoRyeong.) This pagoda is also known as SukGaYoeRae’s Sari-top as well as Soomano Suktop.

Banryongsa Dongjong is made in year 1753, 50cm (~20 in) high and weighs about 100 geun(~60kg, 130 lbs). This bell has ‘Joong-jong’ title which identify this bell’s manufacture place as Banryongsa. Dongjong shows copper bell’s characteristics of end of Chosun Era.
